Vallauris Pottery or Vallauris Ceramics
The name “Vallauris pottery” covers the ceramic production of workshops and factories set up in the Vallauris region from the end of the 19th century.
If, in the public’s mind, Vallauris pottery is above all reminiscent of the extravagant and colorful productions that supplied tourist shops in the 1960s, for amateurs Vallauris was first of all a breeding ground for great potters gathered in this city around of Picasso’s personality.
La Tuilerie de Treigny (The Treigny Tileworks)
Also known as the de Tuilerie du Chaillou (Chaillou Tileworks), it is an iconic site of the Puisaye region’s pottery heritage.
Located in the hamlet of Chaillou in Treigny-Perreuse-Sainte-Colombe, it is now home to a renowned artistic and artisanal activity.
A hub for contemporary creation – The former factory was transformed into a workshop and exhibition space by ceramicist Jean-Marie Foubert, who has been based there since 1991.
The site has hosted major names in contemporary art such as Folon, Zao Wou-Ki, Buren, and Corneille, who came to create ceramic works under the technical guidance of Jean-Marie Foubert and publisher Francis Delille.
Expertise: Traditional equipment is still present, including a restored downdraft kiln, typical of the region.
