Note: Folon made several forays into the art of ceramics. The first dates back to 1981. This was La Ville Magique (The Magic City), a gigantic composition measuring 14 meters long by 3.40 meters high. It is made out of 1,980 tiles in subtle and precise tones. It was commissioned to the artist by the headquarters of the Crédit Communal a stone’s throw from the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels.

Folon returned to ceramics later, in the early 2000s, this time in a different form: vases, dishes, pitchers, plaques, and also sculptures. The work was produced at La Tuilerie in Treigny, in the Yonne department, under the supervision of Francis Delille and Jean-Marie Foubert, who guaranteed the quality of the pieces. Each piece was signed and numbered according to a limited edition determined by the artist. – Ref.: Jean-Michel Folon Foundation

La Tuilerie de Treigny (The Treigny Tileworks)

Also known as the de Tuilerie du Chaillou (Chaillou Tileworks), it is an iconic site of the Puisaye region’s pottery heritage.

Located in the hamlet of Chaillou in Treigny-Perreuse-Sainte-Colombe, it is now home to a renowned artistic and artisanal activity.

A hub for contemporary creation – The former factory was transformed into a workshop and exhibition space by ceramicist Jean-Marie Foubert, who has been based there since 1991.

The site has hosted major names in contemporary art such as Folon, Zao Wou-Ki, Buren, and Corneille, who came to create ceramic works under the technical guidance of Jean-Marie Foubert and publisher Francis Delille.

Expertise: Traditional equipment is still present, including a restored downdraft kiln, typical of the region.
