Horacio GARCÍA ROSSI (1929 – 2012)

Horacio Garcia Rossi was born in 1929 in Buenos Aires and died in 2012 in Paris.

During his studies at the National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, he met and became friends with Hugo Demarco, Julio Le Parc and Francisco Sobrino. From 1959, he lived and worked in Paris, like his peers. He was co-founder of the Visual Art Research Center, then of the GRAV (Visual Art Research Group) alongside Julio Le Parc and Francisco Sobrino.

He was interested in particular in the analysis of visual phenomena and introduced real movement and light into his research from 1962 on. His first experiments were creating geometric shapes on screens.

At the same time, he developed works that could be manipulated by the viewer and began ongoing research into the problem of instability with light and movement.
