!!! Note: This screen-print is created after an original photograph by Henk Van der Vet (1939-2016) – Dutch photographer

Historical context:

In the seventies, Karel Appel and Henk van der Vet collaborated. Henk van der Vet was already working for years at his co-called ‘photographings’, and started to make screen prints for the still working Karel Appel and Christian Dotremont.

In the summer of 1976 photographer Henk van der Vet met Karel Appel in Paris. The plan was to make a photo reportage about the Dutch painter in action. Seven days long Henk van der Vet photograped Karel Appel in his French chateau while working on his paintings.

In 1977, after Henk van der Vet finished the photographs, Karel Appel walked into Van der Vet’s studio in The Hague. He asked for a brush and some paint and started to paint on the photographs! The result of their partnership is the very unique album “Seven Summer Days”. The photographics are part of an album that contains 14 beautiful screen or silk-screen prints (7 photographic prints titled after every day of the week based on original photographs of Van der Vet) and 7 other screen-prints by Karel Appel, all released in limited, roman digit edition of 40 and an additional limited edition of 100 screen-prints.
