Remie GENEST (1942) – Remi(e) Eugene GENEST

Remie Genest was born in Edmonton in September 1942.

As self-taught artist, Remie has been painting professionally for almost 3 decades and is known for his captivating Cityscapes.

He prefers to use acrylic paint for the vibrancy of colour, lasting quality and versatility of the medium.

By 1972, Remie had earned a BA (Bachelor of Arts) from the University of Alberta. His works are taking more maturity and more audacity in subject, composition and media using collage, wood and acrylic. His topics are more an inner exploration of loneliness, individuality and aspirations of people living in big cities.  Still a classic feel but with a deeper and contemporary look on urban life.

In the mid 1980’s he got assignments for murals from Alberta Tourism and Alberta Artist Society. He continued till the late 1980’s and early 1990’s to paint the classic Canadian and Alberta landscapes and the majestic wonders of woods, understorey and bushes, lakes and coastal sea sides of North America.

He has travelled and painted extensively throughout the world, including North America, Europe Africa and Asia. Remie is a member of the Alberta Society of Artists.
