François AZAMBOURG (1963)
Born July 25, 1963 in Angoulême, François Azambourg comes from a background in electrical engineering, followed by the Beaux-Arts, in Caen. He finally learned his trade at the School of Applied Arts rue Olivier de Serres in Paris. A graduate of these two schools, François Azambourg obtained his DSAA in 1987 for a study on saxophones.
François Azambourg explores the expressive potential of materials manufacturing and shaping processes, whether they are industrial, artisanal, innovative or traditional.
He engages his practice in research situations and dedicates his work to the alliance of techniques and art, specific to applied arts, with a constant concern for economy of means.
While his production focuses mainly on the creation of furniture and lighting, he also composes scenography, theatre sets, urban and interior layouts for municipalities, hotels and individuals.
Following his many participations in events such as specialized exhibitions, he carries out many projects with publishers such as Domeau & Fathers, Ligne Roset, Poltrona Frau, Domestic, Kreo or Cappellini, for which he realizes the chairs «Mr Bugatti “, Presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2006.
This collection of stools and chairs is made of mild steel only a few tenths of a millimeter thick, injected with polyurethane, extreme finesse accentuated by a rendering” crumpled “. Focused on simplicity and lightness, François Azambourg was a three-time winner of the Top Plastique competition, organized by plastic producers.
He currently teaches at Ensci-Les Ateliers in Paris.
