Note: Jan Cobbaert was member of the international association Xylon in the Flanders, Belgium.

Xylon is an international association of woodcarvers, represented in most countries of the world, aimed at promoting woodcarving through exhibitions, exchange and inner stimulation. Also in Belgium there is a section of Xylon. Jozef Cantré was chairman of it until his death in 1957. The nine remaining members were or are: Jan Cobbaert, Jean Jacques De Grave, Frans Dille, Theo Humblet, Frans Masereel, Jean Stevo, Victor Delhez, André Toussaint and Maurice Van Essche. Naturally, the title Xylon does not cover a homogeneous group, but simply indicates a collection point of interests. A blatant example: in addition to the figuratives, the abstracts like Cobbaert and Stevo are also present.
