Anders GJENNESTAD (1980) – Aka STRØK

Anders Gjennestad is a Norwegian Stencil Artist born in 1980 in Arendal, he lives and works in Berlin and Oslo and it is under this name that he exhibits in galleries. On street walls he goes by the name of Strøk.

Strøk is mostly recognized for his photo realistic and humorous oil paintings depicting the everyday life of an anonymous superhero. The series ranges from the superhero’s first mission as a toddler to being an old man, still struggling with everyday trivialities.

The choice of material, often painted on rusty metal, glass, and found weathered wood offers an opportunity to explore the ephemeral nature of much of street art in a gallery setting. This aspect of “time” is also explored in his choice of imagery where characters are often caught mid action in everyday activities.
