Note: We notice a steep rocky coastline plunging into the sea, a cloudy sky typical of the North Atlantic coast, and an atmosphere that is both wild and peaceful. These elements perfectly reflect some of the iconic landscapes of the Gaspé Peninsula.
Hugh John Barrett lived between Grande-Vallée in the Gaspé Peninsula and Granby in the Eastern Townships, but it is the Gaspé Peninsula that remains his main muse. He often painted en plein air (painting outdoors), inspired by the cliffs, the beaches, the changing skies, and the ever-present sea.
