Alfred PELLAN (1906 – 1988)

Alfred Pellan, was born Alfred Pelland the 16 of May 1906 in Quebec City and died the 31 of October 1988 in Laval. He was an important figure in twentieth-century Quebec painting. He is a painter, muralist, illustrator and costume designer from Quebec, domiciled in Auteuil, for nearly forty years. He is the first Quebec painter to have distinguished himself on the French scene and more precisely in 1935. From the age of fourteen until his graduation in 1926 he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec. His early canvases, from his first visit to Paris, show a marked fauvist tendency.

Twenty years later, following an exhibition in Paris, his work is recognized in Quebec and Canada.
