Marie LABERGE (1929 – 2017)

Marie Laberge was born Goulet, Marie in 1929 in Quebec and she died in the same city in 2017. She became known for her paintings and poems. She studied at the École des beaux-arts de Québec and holds a degree in nursing from Laval University.

For two years, she led a creation workshop at the Robert-Giffard Hospital Center; she also taught visual arts to children, adolescents and adults.

Oscillating between acrylic and watercolor, her paintings and works on paper reflect tenderness. Flowers adorn and her magical and romantic characters of intangible beauty who know how to fascinate us. Her paintings are vibrant, sometimes questioning, sometimes confusing and daring. A nature overflowing with generosity, Marie knows how to enrich us with works that seek emotion at the most essential of our being.

Marie Laberge had been active as an artist since 1970 and an art book on the artist was also published by Éditions Diane Lefrançois.

In addition to having participated in more than thirty solo exhibitions, Marie Laberge has published seven collections of poems. Four of her drawings accompany the texts from François Vigneault’s collection, Poèmes du jardin.
